Installation, repair and upkeep

Water heater installation in Anthem, AZ

When a water heater no longer meets your household’s daily needs, it disrupts comfort and routines. Old or failing units can deliver inconsistent temperatures, use more energy than they should or stop working altogether. Trident Plumbing & Drain provides water heater installation in Anthem, along with repair and maintenance for the system you already have.

Contact our North Phoenix office to discuss your hot water. Share the heater’s age if you know it, whether it runs on gas or electricity and what has changed. The team can explain whether repair is practical or whether replacement deserves a closer look.

Time for a change?

When the old heater no longer keeps up

Hot water that runs out sooner than it used to, temperatures that swing during a shower, water collecting around the base of the tank and repeated repair visits are common reasons to start thinking about replacement.

None of these signs settles the question alone. A leaking fitting can often be repaired, while water coming from the tank itself usually points toward replacement. An inspection shows which situation you are dealing with before any new unit is discussed.

Every type of system

Covering every type of water heater

A tank heater keeps a supply of hot water ready, while a tankless unit heats water on demand and frees up space. Trident installs both, in gas and electric models, as well as hybrid heat pump and Marathon electric tank heaters where they suit the home.

Household size, hot-water use at busy times and the available space all influence which unit fits. Switching from tank to tankless, or from one fuel source to another, can involve changes to gas lines, electrical service or venting, so ask what the change would involve before deciding.

Leave it to a professional

The risks of DIY water heater work

Water heater installation involves water connections, gas or electrical work and, for many units, venting. Improper hookups can lead to leaks and water damage, and mistakes with gas lines or venting can create a carbon monoxide hazard. Incorrect electrical wiring can cause short circuits or a fire risk.

The installation also needs to follow applicable codes and the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific unit. Trident’s technicians handle the connections, venting and safety components as part of the installation, so you are not left to work through them yourself.

Long-term care

Repair and maintenance after the installation

A new heater still needs periodic care. Flushing a tank helps manage sediment, and tankless units have their own maintenance needs set out by the manufacturer. Ask what schedule fits the model you choose.

If the existing heater is leaking, making new noises or running out of hot water early, an inspection may show that a repair is enough. Trident repairs tank and tankless systems and explains the fault before recommending a repair or a replacement.

Minerals and heat

Sediment, scale and the seasonal shift

EPCOR's 2025 report for the district lists hardness of about 18 grains per gallon, with 80 ppm of calcium in a 2024 sample, and says the utility does not treat for hardness. When water is heated, part of that calcium comes out of solution. In a tank it settles on the bottom as sediment; in a tankless unit it coats the heat exchanger. Either way, the heater has to work harder to deliver the same hot water.

The report also notes that the blend of Colorado River water and groundwater can change hardness with the seasons, so buildup does not form at a steady rate all year. A softener ahead of the heater cuts the mineral load. Without one, regular flushing of a tank, or descaling of a tankless unit, is the main defense. If your heater pops, rumbles or runs out of hot water early, mention it when you call.

Pricing factors

What moves the price of water heater work

No honest total comes before someone sees the heater and the space around it. These are the details that shift the number.

On unincorporated land, replacing an existing heater does not need a County permit when the work follows the manufacturer's specifications; switching fuel, venting or location is a larger job. GreenSky® financing is available for a replacement, and the preventative maintenance membership adds a yearly water heater flush and 10% off plumbing services.

  • A repair to one part, or a new heater.
  • Tank, tankless or hybrid, gas or electric.
  • Where the heater sits and how easy it is to reach.
  • New gas, venting, electrical or drain work for a different type of unit.
  • Hauling away the old heater.

Heaters and local water

Three facts for the heater in an Anthem home

Local water, County rules and the age of local homes all shape a water heater repair or replacement.

Approximate hardness of the local tap water
18 gr/gal

EPCOR lists about 18 grains per gallon, including 80 ppm of calcium. Heating drives those minerals out of the water as sediment in a tank or scale in a tankless unit.

No permit

On unincorporated land, the County dropped the permit requirement for replacing an existing heater, as long as the work follows the manufacturer's specifications. A County inspection is still available if you apply.

Our 12 year old water heater was leaking. I called and spoke with Shelby who was able to dispatch a technician immediately, same day… Tyler arrived on time, worked efficiently and cleaned up after himself.

water heater installation in Anthem.

Questions about water heater installation in Anthem? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Do you install both gas and electric water heaters?

Yes. Trident installs gas and electric tank heaters and tankless systems, and also offers hybrid and Marathon models.

How do I know what size water heater I need?

Household size, busy-time hot-water use and the available space guide the choice. The technician reviews these details with you before recommending a unit.

Can I install a water heater myself?

It is not recommended. The work involves water, gas or electrical connections and venting, and mistakes can cause leaks, fire risk or carbon monoxide hazards.

Does a problem with my Anthem water heater always mean replacement?

No. Many faults can be repaired. The heater is inspected first, and replacement is discussed when the unit’s condition or repeated problems make it the more practical choice.

Does EPCOR soften the water before it reaches my heater?

No. EPCOR's report says it does not treat drinking water for hardness, which it puts at about 18 grains per gallon. A softener installed at the home is the way to reduce the minerals reaching your heater.

Will Maricopa County inspect my new water heater?

Only if you ask. The County no longer requires a permit to replace an existing heater when the work follows the manufacturer's specifications, but you may apply for a permit if you want the County to inspect the work.
