Hot water

When the water heater is not keeping up

Inconsistent temperatures, hot water that runs out early or a heater that has stopped working can come from several faults. The technician troubleshoots the unit before recommending a repair, and explains when the heater’s condition makes replacement worth discussing.

Trident installs, maintains and repairs both tank and tankless water heaters. Tankless units heat water on demand and can save space, while hybrid and Marathon models are further options; the right choice depends on the household’s hot-water use, fuel source and available space.

Aging pipes

Deciding between partial and full repiping

Corrosion, repeated leaks and declining water pressure can mean the home’s piping is reaching the end of its useful life. If the problems are confined to one area, replacing that section may be enough; if they appear in several places, a full repipe may be the more practical choice.

An assessment of the system shapes that decision. Ask which lines are affected, what access the work requires and how water use in the home will be interrupted during the job. For a substantial project, see the financing page before the visit.

Act quickly

For a burst pipe, a major leak or a drain that is backing up, stop using the affected plumbing and close the nearest shutoff valve or the main water shutoff if you can reach it safely. Knowing where the main shutoff is before an emergency makes this step easier.

Then contact our North Phoenix office with the address, what is happening and which areas of the property are affected. Mention whether water is still spreading and whether the problem involves supply lines, drains or the water heater.

Kitchens and bathrooms

Everyday kitchen and bathroom repairs

Under-sink leaks, a garbage disposal that hums without turning, a toilet that runs between uses and a dripping shower valve are common reasons to call. Small leaks are worth attention even when the fixture still works, because water can damage cabinets and flooring over time.

Trident repairs and replaces sinks, faucets, disposals, toilets and showers, and can review the supply lines and shutoff valves serving them. If you are considering a bathroom remodel, mention it so repair work and upgrades can be planned together.

District water

Six wells, one aquifer and what the report lists

The Black Canyon City Water Improvement District, a special district of Yavapai County, supplies its customers from six groundwater wells in the Agua Fria Aquifer, spread across three well sites. State records list 840 residential connections. If your bill comes from the District, its annual report describes your water; if your home runs on its own well, that report does not.

The 2025 report lists arsenic results from 1.4 to 9.9 parts per billion against a federal limit of 10, sodium at 51 ppm and nitrate up to 2.4 ppm. It also lists lead and copper results and a violation summary, and a District notice dated September 15, 2026 lists missed arsenic monitoring for April to June 2026. The report does not list a hardness figure, so size a softener from a test of your own water rather than a published number. Read the report and the District's notices on its website, then tell us which concern you want to address, and we can explain which treatment fits it.

Yavapai County rules

What needs a County permit and what does not

Building rules here come from Yavapai County, whose 2024 codes took effect on January 1, 2026, for the unincorporated parts of the county. For homes, the codes require no plumbing permit to stop a leak, clear a stoppage or repair a leaking pipe, valve or fixture, as long as nothing is replaced or rearranged. Replacing a gas water heater without changing its flue or gas connections is exempt from mechanical and fuel gas permits, and an electric heater of the same type and rating from an electrical permit; the plumbing exemptions do not mention water heaters. Replacing a defective concealed pipe with new material counts as new work that needs a permit and an inspection, and none of these exemptions apply to commercial projects.

Septic systems fall to the County as well. Its Environmental Services Unit permits and inspects conventional and alternative systems, and it inspects them when a property changes hands. According to the County, a repair needs a permit if it makes the system larger or smaller or changes its footprint. Setbacks shape any new work: a septic system must sit at least 10 feet from a structure and 100 feet from a well.

Past the meter

Service lines, backflow and older homes

Census estimates put the median home here at 1993. About 45% of the roughly 1,260 homes went up before 1990, with none estimated before 1960, and around 92% of occupied homes are lived in by their owners. Margins on these estimates are wide for a community this size, so treat them as a rough picture. In older homes, original supply lines, valves and water heaters are worth checking before a small leak turns into a larger repair.

Under the District's ordinance, customers install their service lines at their own expense, with a shut-off valve, at least two feet deep. The ordinance also calls for a double check valve assembly on the service line side of the meter and backflow devices on outside faucets. If the District finds an active well on a property it serves, its notice letter requires a testable backflow assembly, at least a double check valve, installed within four weeks of notice and certified every year by a licensed tester.

Our 12 year old water heater was leaking. I called and spoke with Shelby who was able to dispatch a technician immediately, same day… Tyler arrived on time, worked efficiently and cleaned up after himself.

Answers before you book

Questions about
plumbing.

Questions about plumbing services in Black Canyon City? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Can you repair and replace old plumbing systems?

Yes. Trident provides both partial and full repiping. An assessment of the affected lines helps determine which approach fits the home.

Do you service tankless water heaters?

Yes. Trident installs, maintains and repairs tankless water heaters as well as conventional tank models.

What types of water filtration systems do you install?

Reverse osmosis systems, water softeners and carbon filtration systems, each designed for a different water quality concern.

What should I do first in a plumbing emergency?

Stop using the plumbing involved, turn off the nearest valve or the main shutoff if you can reach it safely, then contact our North Phoenix office with a description of the problem.

Who supplies water in Black Canyon City?

The local water improvement district serves its customers from six groundwater wells, and state records list 840 residential connections. If your bill comes from the District, its annual report covers your water. A home that runs on a private well is not covered by that report.

What does the District's 2025 report list for arsenic?

Results from 1.4 to 9.9 parts per billion in 2025, against a federal limit of 10. Since then, the District has posted a September 15, 2026 notice listing missed arsenic monitoring for April to June 2026 and a September 11, 2026 statement from its board chair about arsenic treatment backwash. Read all three on the District's website. If you want treatment at a drinking water tap, ask for a system certified to reduce arsenic.

Do I need a County permit to replace a water heater?

Yavapai County's 2024 codes exempt a gas heater replacement that keeps the existing flue and gas connections from mechanical and fuel gas permits, and an electric replacement of the same type and rating from an electrical permit. The plumbing permit exemptions do not list water heaters, so confirm with the County before the work.

Do I need a permit to repair a septic system?

Yavapai County says you do if the repair makes the system larger or smaller or changes its footprint. The County's Environmental Services Unit handles septic permits and inspections.

How can I check for a leak between the meter and the house?

The District suggests turning off every faucet and water-using appliance, then reading the meter at 10 to 20 minute intervals. If it keeps moving, a leak probably exists and needs to be located.
