Hydro Jetting in Phoenix, AZ

When a drain keeps clogging because of grease, sludge or debris along the pipe walls, hydro jetting can clean the line more thoroughly. The pipe has to be suitable first.

Cleaning the whole pipe wall

Hydro jetting for drain and sewer lines

Clearing a path through a clog can leave buildup clinging to the rest of the pipe. Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scour suitable drain and sewer lines. Trident Plumbing & Drain provides it for homes and businesses after evaluating the line and the problem.

Our North Phoenix office arranges jetting visits. Let us know how frequently the line clogs, where the backups show up and what cleaning has been done before. For a first slow drain or a general drain problem, our drain cleaning and repair page is the better starting point.

The method

How pressurized water cleans a line

Water under high pressure is sent along the inside of the pipe, breaking up obstructions and scouring buildup from the walls. Rather than only opening the center of a clog, it can address grease, sludge and debris along the length of the line being serviced.

The equipment and approach are matched to the line and the restriction. Jetting is one of several professional cleaning methods rather than the answer to every slow fixture, so the cause of the restriction is identified before jetting is chosen.

When it fits

Signs a line may benefit from jetting

Frequent clogs, drainage that slows again soon after clearing and repeated sewer backups can all justify a conversation about more thorough cleaning. Grease and sludge collect inside kitchen lines in particular, and certain root intrusions can also be addressed during cleaning.

Commercial kitchens and other heavily used drains may be candidates for jetting as part of planned maintenance when the pipe condition allows. The need and frequency depend on how the line is used and what has been found; there is no single schedule for every property.

Suitability first

Why the pipe is checked before jetting

High-pressure water can be too much for an older pipe that is cracked, collapsed or badly corroded. The plumber evaluates the line before recommending jetting and, if damage is found, explains why a repair or a different service should come first.

A recurring blockage should not lead automatically to more aggressive cleaning. Removing buildup can restore flow, but it cannot repair a crack or a collapsed section. Ask what the evaluation showed and which alternatives exist for your line.

After the service

Flow checks and keeping the line clear

After cleaning, the line is checked for flow. Ask what came out of the line, what the plumber saw and whether any follow-up is advised. If buildup has been a repeated problem, discuss a maintenance approach that suits how the drain is used.

Habits matter between visits. Keep grease and food scraps out of the sink and use drain guards to catch hair in showers and tubs. Jetting can be part of maintenance when it is warranted, but no cleaning method stops a line from ever clogging again.

What the City does

The City jets its mains; your line is your call

The City of Phoenix keeps its more than 5,000 miles of sewer lines clear with a preventive program that cleans 25 to 30 percent of them each year. Before cleaning, a TV crew inspects the line with a remote camera and checks its integrity. Cleaning crews then use jet hydro-vac trucks, which work like a pressure washer with a large vacuum, along with rotating saws that cut roots where they enter.

That order makes sense for the line under your yard too. With most homes in the city built before 1990, a camera inspection first shows whether the pipe is sound enough for high-pressure water or has cracks and roots that need repair. The City cleans only City-owned lines, so the stretch from your house to the main is the owner's to maintain, and that is the line our team inspects and jets.

Jetting pricing

Factors in the price of hydro jetting

The length and condition of the line, and what has built up inside it, set the price.

  • The length of line and the cleanout access available.
  • How heavy the grease, scale or root growth is.
  • A camera inspection before and after.
  • A line that needs repair instead of cleaning.

How Phoenix sewer lines get cleaned

The City jets its own mains. Here is what that means for the line on your side.

The City cleans more than 1,200 miles of its own sewer lines every year. Its crews stop at the main; the line from your house is yours.

They came out quickly, did camera work, and took the time to thoroughly track down the issue instead of rushing. Turns out we had roots breaking a pipe under our tub.

hydro jetting in Phoenix.

Questions about hydro jetting in Phoenix? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Can hydro jetting clear tree roots?

Certain root intrusions can be addressed during cleaning. Roots get in through openings in the pipe, though, so the line's condition is checked and damage may still call for repair.

Could jetting harm an older pipe?

It can if the pipe is cracked, collapsed or badly corroded, which is why the line is evaluated first. When jetting is not suitable, another cleaning method or a repair is recommended instead.

Is jetting only for sewer lines?

No. It is used on suitable drain lines as well as sewer lines. The choice depends on the buildup and the condition of the pipe rather than on which line it is.

How often should a line be jetted?

There is no single schedule. Lines with recurring buildup may benefit from periodic jetting when the pipe is suitable, with the frequency set by how the drain is used and what each service finds.

Does the City of Phoenix use hydro jetting?

Yes, on its own sewers. The City says its crews use jet hydro-vac trucks, which work like a pressure washer with a large vacuum, along with rotating saws that remove roots. The line from your house to the City main is the owner's to clean.

How often does the City clean its own sewer lines?

The City says it cleans about 25 to 30 percent of its more than 5,000 miles of sewer lines each year, after inspecting them with a camera. Your own line is cleaned when buildup calls for it.
