Drain Cleaning

Glendale, AZ drain cleaning services

Trident Plumbing & Drain cleans clogged sinks, showers, tubs, toilets and sewer lines. The cleaning method is chosen for the fixture, the type of buildup and the condition of the pipe, with the aim of restoring flow without harming the line.

Schedule through our Peoria office and describe which drains are slow, how quickly they empty and whether the problem has happened before. If a drain clogs again soon after cleaning, the drain cleaning and repair guide explains how damage in the line is found and assessed.

Know what builds up

Common causes of clogged drains

Bathroom sinks, showers and tubs collect hair and soap residue that bind together over time. Kitchen drains clog when grease, fat and cooking oil cool and stick to the pipe walls, especially when combined with food scraps washed down a sink that has no garbage disposal.

Toilets clog from wipes, hygiene products, cotton balls and large amounts of toilet paper. Small objects such as jewelry or toys can lodge in a trap. In outdoor drains and sewer lines, tree roots can grow into pipes in search of moisture and nutrients.

Match the method

How a clogged drain is cleaned

A single slow fixture usually points to a blockage near that fixture, while several slow drains suggest a restriction further down a shared line. The technician starts by narrowing down where the clog is, then uses cleaning equipment suited to that fixture and location.

Hydro jetting uses pressurized water to scour grease and sludge from pipe walls and can be considered for suitable drain and sewer lines. A camera inspection may follow if the cause is unclear or the clog returns quickly. Ask why a method was chosen for your line.

Why chemical drain cleaners fall short

Store-bought drain cleaners rely on harsh chemicals that can be hazardous to handle, and they may leave part of a clog behind. They also do nothing to show why the drain blocked, so the same problem tends to return.

Professional drain cleaning identifies where the blockage sits and what it is made of, then removes it with equipment designed for that pipe. If you have already poured a chemical product into the drain, say so before the visit so the technician can take appropriate care.

Prevent the next clog

Upkeep for drains that keep slowing

Drain screens in showers and tubs catch hair before it enters the pipe. Let cooking grease cool and put it in the trash rather than the sink, scrape plates before washing and flush only toilet paper. These habits remove the most common causes of repeat clogs.

Drains that slow on a regular pattern may benefit from periodic professional cleaning, and a Trident maintenance membership is one way to plan it. If a drain keeps failing despite good habits and regular cleaning, a camera inspection can check the line for damage.

Your sewer line

Glendale puts drain upkeep on the property owner

Under Glendale City Code, the property owner is responsible for cleaning, repairing and replacing the sewer and its connection to the public line. The one exception is work that requires digging up a public street, a sidewalk or a public right-of-way such as an alley, which the City handles at no cost to the owner. Day to day, that means a clog in a sink, a tub, the main drain or the line under your yard is yours to clear, and our team can clear it.

If the trouble looks bigger than one house, such as a backup or overflow that seems to come from the street, report it to the City. Its water services issue page takes reports of sewer backups, odors and overflows, but it is monitored only on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; after hours, call (623) 930-4100. The City's water quality report also lists what never belongs in a drain, including kitty litter, paper towels, floss, wipes and medications.

What sets the price

Why one drain call costs more than another

What a drain cleaning costs comes down to the clog: where it is, what it is made of and how hard it is to reach. Here is what changes from one call to the next.

There is no additional fee for a regularly scheduled weekend appointment. Members of our preventative maintenance plan get 10% off plumbing services.

  • One fixture drain or the main line serving the whole house.
  • Whether a cleanout is accessible or the line must be reached through a fixture.
  • What the clog is made of: grease, hair, wipes, litter or roots.
  • A camera inspection when the cause is unclear.
  • Hydro jetting for heavy grease or sludge in a suitable line.

They came out quickly, did camera work, and took the time to thoroughly track down the issue instead of rushing. Turns out we had roots breaking a pipe under our tub.

Questions about
drain cleaning in Glendale.

Questions about drain cleaning in Glendale? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Which drains in a home clog most often?

Bathroom sinks, showers and tubs tend to clog with hair and soap residue, while kitchen sinks clog with grease and food. Toilets block when items other than toilet paper are flushed.

Is it safe to pour grease down the drain with hot water?

No. Grease cools and hardens further along the pipe even when it goes down hot. Let it cool in a container, then put it in the trash.

How often should drains be professionally cleaned?

It depends on how the drains are used and how often they slow. Drains that clog on a regular pattern may benefit from scheduled cleaning; ask the technician what makes sense for your property.

When should I look at drain repair instead?

If a drain backs up again soon after cleaning, gurgles or smells of sewage, the pipe may be damaged. The drain cleaning and repair guide explains how that is inspected.

Does the City of Glendale clear clogs in my sewer line?

Not on your side. City Code makes the property owner responsible for cleaning the sewer and its connection to the public line. The City steps in only when the work requires excavating a public street, a sidewalk or a public right-of-way such as an alley, and then it does so at no cost to the owner.

Can I flush unused medications down the drain?

The City asks residents not to, because many medications cannot be broken down at a water reclamation facility. It suggests the MedReturn drop boxes at the Foothills and Gateway police stations instead.
