A system with a purpose

Water Filtration

Water filtration and treatment options in Surprise, AZ

A change in taste, visible material in the water or deposits on fixtures can lead to different questions. Start by describing what you notice and where it occurs. An existing filter, a recent plumbing change or a previous water test can also be useful information when deciding what to investigate.

Trident Plumbing & Drain provides water-treatment services for Surprise through its Peoria office. We install and maintain treatment equipment and explain which options address the needs identified. A system should be selected for its documented purpose rather than a general promise of purified water.

Trident offers carbon filtration, reverse osmosis and softening for different treatment needs. Carbon filters can address selected taste or odor concerns, with actual reduction claims depending on the product. A reverse osmosis system uses a membrane; a point-of-use installation treats water supplied to a particular fixture, often a kitchen tap.

A softener targets hardness minerals rather than serving as a substitute for every filter. More than one treatment stage may be discussed when the concerns differ. Ask what each proposed component does and which documented claims support that choice.

Understand the concern

Signs that call for a closer look

Unpleasant taste, odor or appearance may prompt an assessment, but those observations do not identify every substance present or establish water safety. Relevant water testing and product information help connect a treatment choice to a specific concern. The assessment should account for the water at the taps you use.

Describe whether the issue affects one outlet or several, and share any existing test results. Mineral deposits and soap-related problems may lead to a hardness discussion. A separate plumbing symptom, such as a leak or a drain backup, needs its own assessment rather than an assumed filtration remedy.

Plan where it works

Think about the water you want to treat. A drinking-water concern at the kitchen sink and a concern affecting water throughout the home call for different installation discussions. The appropriate arrangement depends on the treatment goal, existing plumbing, available space and requirements of the selected equipment.

If a system is already installed, provide its model and what has changed in performance. The next step may involve maintenance or evaluating the current setup before adding equipment. Our team can explain the installation scope and how it relates to the concern you want addressed.

Keep the plan practical

Maintenance belongs in the decision

Before selecting equipment, ask how its filters or other service items are maintained and how replacement needs are determined. Follow the manufacturer guidance for the actual model. A system that has been installed is still equipment that requires care; its name does not remove that responsibility.

Keep the equipment details and service history available for future visits. Tell us about changes in taste, flow or operation instead of assuming they prove the system needs replacement. For hardness-specific treatment, our Surprise softener guide explains the separate assessment and installation process.

Read your report

Start with the report for your water system

The City of Surprise publishes a separate water quality report for each system it runs: Mountain Vista, Desert Oasis, Surprise Foothills and Circle City. The 2025 Mountain Vista report lists total dissolved solids at 307.5 ppm, sodium at 88.8 ppm and sulfate at 62.6 ppm. For arsenic it lists 5.3 parts per billion, samples ranging from 3.0 to 11, a federal limit of 10 and no violation. City water comes only from wells, and four of the City's six water supply facilities treat for arsenic.

Other providers publish their own reports, and the City points EPCOR customers to EPCOR's Agua Fria district reports. The City also notes that some private water companies, private wells and co-ops may not chlorinate, so ask your provider if a chlorine taste is part of the concern. Whatever you install, the City's report advises following the manufacturer's maintenance instructions for softeners and reverse osmosis systems, since skipped maintenance can result in poor water quality in the home.

Treatment pricing

Factors behind a water treatment quote

Treatment pricing follows how much of the house you treat and what the system is built to remove.

Trident's current offer is 20% off a new water softener or filtration system. For reverse osmosis, our five-year plan includes a filter change each year; sanitizing is not included.

  • One drinking water tap or the whole house.
  • Carbon, reverse osmosis or a combined system with a softener.
  • Space, drain access and plumbing changes at the install location.
  • Cartridge and membrane replacement schedules.

Total dissolved solids, Mountain Vista, 2025 report
307.5 ppm

Samples ranged from 231 to 362 ppm. Dissolved minerals affect taste, one reason people add reverse osmosis at a drinking water tap.

Sodium, Mountain Vista system, 2025 report
88.8 ppm

Sodium samples ranged from 65 to 110 ppm. If taste is the concern, ask whether a system is certified to reduce sodium.

Answers before you book

Questions about
water filtration in Surprise.

Questions about water filtration in Surprise? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Is a softener the same thing as a water filter?

No. A softener addresses hardness minerals. Filters and reverse osmosis systems have other treatment functions, which vary by product. The equipment should match the concern identified.

Can taste or appearance tell me which system to buy?

Those observations are useful to report but do not establish the full water condition. Relevant testing and a review of product capabilities help guide the selection.

Does reverse osmosis have to treat the whole house?

No. A point-of-use RO system serves a particular fixture, such as a kitchen drinking-water tap. The arrangement should suit where treated water is needed.

What should I bring to a water-treatment discussion?

Share the concern, affected outlets, existing equipment details and any water-test results. Also mention when filters or other service items were last maintained, if known.

Is all tap water in Surprise chlorinated?

No. The City notes that some private water companies, private wells and co-ops may not chlorinate. Ask your provider, which you can find through the City's My Surprise Address lookup.

Does City of Surprise water run through lead service lines?

The City's October 2024 inventory documented zero lead service lines and zero unknown service lines in its Mountain Vista and Desert Oasis systems, and both received a non-lead designation from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. If another company supplies your water, check its website.
