Keep drains flowing

Clearer drains for Litchfield Park homes

A clogged or leaking drain can quickly disrupt daily life. Trident Plumbing & Drain provides drain cleaning and repair that keeps your plumbing system flowing, from the first signs of trouble to the habits that help prevent the next clog.

Contact our Peoria office to schedule a professional assessment. Mention which fixtures are affected, what you have already tried and whether the problem has happened before, so the visit can focus on the cause rather than only the clog.

Telltale signs

What the symptoms can tell you

Slow sinks, tubs that will not empty and toilets that gurgle after flushing may seem like minor frustrations, but they often point to something more serious. One slow fixture usually involves its own branch line, while several fixtures acting up together can point further down the system.

Odors creeping up from drains can signal decaying buildup or a sewer line issue, and water collecting around a floor drain can mean the line is backing up. Ignoring these signs tends to make them worse, so report them early.

Find the cause

Grease, roots and objects that snag

Grease and soap scum accumulate over time and can narrow a pipe until water barely flows. Tree roots can enter underground lines and create obstructions that worsen with use, and small objects washed down a drain can catch debris until the pipe is blocked.

Hydro jetting can remove accumulated buildup and blockages from suitable lines, leaving the pipe walls cleaner than a basic clearing would. The method is chosen after the line is assessed, since pipe condition matters as much as the clog.

Beyond cleaning

When the pipe itself needs repair

Not every issue can be solved with cleaning alone. When pipes are cracked, corroded or otherwise damaged, drain repair restores the line. Depending on what the inspection finds, that can range from repairing a small break to replacing a worn section.

Ask what the inspection showed, why cleaning would not be enough and how much of the line the repair involves. A clear scope lets you weigh the work and protect floors and walls from water damage caused by a failing drain.

Prevention

Habits that help prevent the next clog

Proactive care is the simplest way to avoid future problems. Use strainers in sinks and tubs, keep grease and wipes out of the drains, and avoid relying on chemical drain cleaners, which can be hard on pipes.

Occasional professional cleaning and periodic inspections help, especially for a line with a history of clogs. Our maintenance membership can put that upkeep on a schedule, so recurring problems are caught before they cause a backup.

Liberty's sewer advice

What Liberty asks you to keep out of the sewer

Liberty's Litchfield Park pages cover wastewater as well as water, and they are specific about what should never be flushed: wipes, including those sold as flushable, paper towels, tissues, cotton swabs, floss, diapers, sanitary products and medicine. Liberty points to studies finding that wipes do not break down once they reach the sewer. In the kitchen, it asks you to pour grease into a can for the trash, throw out coffee grounds and eggshells, and scrape plates into the trash before rinsing.

Liberty also explains why grease is a problem. It cools, hardens and sticks to the inside of the pipe, building layer on layer until the line blocks and sewage can back up into the house. Not every bad smell means a clog. If a sink smells when the water runs, Liberty's FAQ says the cause is often gas from bacteria feeding on food, soap and hair in the drain. Several slow drains at once, or a smell that keeps returning, is worth a call.

Cleaning or repair

Factors behind a drain or sewer line quote

Clearing a stoppage and repairing a line are different jobs, and here the difference also decides whether the City is involved. Clearing needs no permit, while a sewer line repair does, with a flat fee and an inspection. A line that connects to the main in a street or alley also needs a right-of-way permit from Public Works.

Regularly scheduled weekend appointments carry no additional fees, and members of our preventative maintenance plan get 10% off plumbing services. GreenSky® financing is available for a sewer line repair.

  • A single fixture drain or the main sewer line.
  • Access through a cleanout, a fixture or a roof vent.
  • What caused the blockage: grease, wipes, roots or a broken pipe.
  • A camera inspection to check the condition of the line.
  • A repair that needs the City permit, the inspection and possibly a Public Works permit.

They came out quickly, did camera work, and took the time to thoroughly track down the issue instead of rushing. Turns out we had roots breaking a pipe under our tub.

Questions about
drain cleaning and repair in Litchfield Park.

Questions about drain cleaning and repair in Litchfield Park? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Why does my toilet gurgle after flushing?

Gurgling can mean air is being pulled through a partly blocked drain or vent. An assessment can show whether the restriction is in the toilet's line or further along the system.

Can tree roots get into drain lines?

Roots can enter underground lines and create obstructions that worsen with each use. An inspection shows whether roots are present and whether the pipe needs repair.

What should I keep out of my drains?

Keep grease, wipes and small objects out of drains, and use strainers to catch hair and food. These habits reduce buildup between professional cleanings.

Is hydro jetting safe for my pipes?

Hydro jetting is used on lines suited to it. The plumber assesses the pipe's condition first and recommends another method if jetting is not appropriate.

Do I need a City permit to repair my sewer line?

Yes. The City requires a permit to install or repair a sewer line, and a line that connects to the main in a street or alley also needs a right-of-way permit from Public Works. Clearing a stoppage does not need a permit.

Why does my sink smell like sewer gas only when the water runs?

Liberty's water quality FAQ says that is often gas made by bacteria living on food, soap and hair in the drain, pushed out as the water runs. Fill a glass at the tap and smell it in another area; if the glass has no odor, the drain is most likely the source.
