Who is calling matters

Calling an emergency plumber to a Surprise property

Trident Plumbing & Drain handles plumbing emergencies at Surprise homes, rentals and businesses, coordinated through our Peoria office. Active leaks, burst pipes, wastewater backing up and a water heater that leaks or suddenly fails are common reasons to call.

What the office needs to know depends on who is calling and where they are. The sections below cover being at the property, running a business and arranging service from elsewhere, then what happens when the cause is not visible.

If you are there

Turn off the main water valve if you know its location and can get to it safely, and stop using whatever fixture is overflowing or leaking. Keep clear of wet floors around outlets, appliances or equipment, and do not cross water to reach a breaker panel.

If the flooding has made the space unsafe, leave and call for emergency help. From somewhere safe, explain what is happening and which rooms are affected. If no tap has water at all, the city's address lookup for finding your drinking water provider can show who supplies the property.

If it is a business

For a shop, office or other commercial property, tell the office which restrooms, sinks or work areas are out of use and whether staff or customers are affected. Mention any equipment involved, such as a water heater serving the building.

Name the person who can provide access and approve the work, especially if the problem is in a locked or shared area. Trident provides emergency and planned plumbing support for businesses, and those details help plan the visit.

If you are not on site

Landlords, property managers and family members sometimes arrange service for a home they are not at. Give the address, the name and number of the person on site and what they have told you. Say whether anyone has closed the shutoff.

Confirm who will let the plumber in and who can approve the repair, since they may be different people. Ask how the findings will reach you, so decisions about the work are not held up while the property waits.

When the cause is hidden

If the source of the water is not obvious

Sometimes water appears on a floor or wall with no fixture visibly leaking. Once the immediate risk is under control, the next step is finding the source. Leak detection looks at fixtures, pipes, water lines and plumbing beneath the slab.

If the emergency was a drain that backed up, ask whether the line needs more than clearing. Drain repair addresses damage found after cleaning, and hydro jetting is one cleaning method considered once the line has been assessed.

Provider or plumber?

Is the problem on the City's side or yours?

Start by working out where the water is coming from. If you are a City of Surprise water customer and water is surfacing in the street or on the street side of the meter, that points to the City's side: its code makes the City responsible for repairing and maintaining water mains and the lines that connect them to a customer's meter. After hours, the City lists a water emergency line, 623.222.1990, for evenings after 5 p.m., weekends and holidays. If EPCOR or another company bills you for water, call that provider instead.

Water inside the house, under the floor or on the house side of the meter is where our team comes in. Sewage is handled differently. For a backup in a home on City sewer, the City asks for a call with your name, address and phone number so it can send someone to check its line; if the blockage is not in the City's line, clearing it falls to the owner, and we can take it from there.

Emergency pricing

What affects the cost of an emergency call

An urgent visit is priced by what it takes to stop the damage and make the repair.

Preventative maintenance members have the emergency service fee waived and receive 10% off plumbing services. Weekend appointments are regularly scheduled with no additional fees.

  • What has failed: a supply line, water heater, drain or fixture.
  • How much has to be opened to reach it.
  • Whether a temporary fix comes before the full repair.
  • Parts for the repair.
  • Water already spread to floors or walls, which needs separate restoration.

Questions about
emergency plumbing in Surprise.

Questions about emergency plumbing in Surprise? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Can a tenant request emergency service?

Yes, a tenant can call and describe the problem. If someone else must approve repairs, include their contact details too so the work can be agreed without delay.

What should a business do before the plumber arrives?

Close off affected restrooms or work areas, stop using the fixtures involved and keep people away from standing water. Have someone available who can open locked rooms or equipment areas.

What if I cannot be at the property myself?

Someone needs to provide access. If that will not be you, tell the office who will be there and how to reach the person who can approve the work.

Why look for a hidden leak once the emergency is over?

Water that appeared without a visible source may still be escaping. Detection helps establish where it comes from, so the repair addresses the actual fault rather than the place the water collected.

Who do I call about a water main break in Surprise?

Your water provider. For City of Surprise customers, the City maintains mains and the lines up to the meter and lists 623.222.1990 for water emergencies after 5 p.m., weekends and holidays. EPCOR and other providers have their own contacts.

What should I do if sewage is backing up into my house?

Stop using the fixtures that drain to it. If the City provides your sewer, call it with your name, address and phone number; it sends someone to check. A backup in the City's line is the City's to correct, and one in your own line is a job for a plumber.
