Find the fault first

Toilet repair for Scottsdale homes and businesses

Trident Plumbing & Drain repairs clogged, running, leaking, loose and weak-flushing toilets in Scottsdale. The work can involve tank parts, the wax ring, the flange or the connected drain, so we check the toilet before recommending a part or a new fixture.

Our North Phoenix office arranges Scottsdale service. Tell us what the toilet is doing, whether other drains are affected and whether it has been repaired before. If the bowl is close to overflowing, stop flushing and ask for help.

Clogs and backups

When the toilet will not clear or keeps clogging

A plunger can clear an occasional blockage. When a clog will not move, or soon returns, the obstruction may sit deeper in the toilet or in the drain beyond it. Trident uses tools suited to the toilet to find and clear it, then explains what was found.

Tell us whether a tub, shower or nearby sink drains slowly or gurgles when this toilet is flushed. Several affected fixtures point to the connected drain line rather than the toilet, which changes the service: drain cleaning or a sewer line assessment may be the next step.

Listen between uses

Running toilets and tanks that refill on their own

When a toilet runs on, or tops itself up with no one nearby, water is usually slipping from the tank into the bowl. This is often called ghost flushing. Several tank parts can cause it: the flapper, the fill or flush valve, the handle, or the seal between tank and bowl.

Listen for when the refilling happens and whether it stops on its own. That pattern narrows the inspection but does not identify the worn part by itself. Replacing the part that has actually failed avoids changing components that still work.

Water on the floor

Water around the base can come from the wax ring, the flange, the supply connection or a crack in the fixture. A toilet that moves or rocks needs attention too. Mention any movement, staining and earlier repairs to the same spot.

Trident replaces wax rings and repairs flanges when the inspection shows they are the cause. A cracked bowl or tank changes the options and can make replacement the practical choice. Until it is checked, avoid using a toilet that leaks with every flush.

Repair or replace

Deciding when to replace the toilet

Replacement is worth discussing when the toilet is cracked, keeps needing attention or no longer suits the bathroom. Age alone is not the deciding factor; the condition of the fixture and its history of problems matter more.

A replacement includes aligning the new toilet, sealing it to the flange, mounting it securely and connecting the water supply. If the old toilet leaked or clogged often, ask for the flange and drain connection to be checked during the work.

Running toilets

A running toilet shows up on the water bill

Scottsdale Water says the most common reasons for a higher than normal water bill are a malfunctioning irrigation system or a leaky pipe or toilet. A flapper that no longer seals or a fill valve that never fully shuts off can let water run around the clock with little noise. If your bill has jumped and the irrigation checks out, the toilets are the next place to look, and hourly data in the City's WaterSmart portal can show whether use continues overnight.

Replacing a toilet is a bigger step than swapping a part. The City's permit guidance lists repair or replacement of existing plumbing fixtures in the same location among its Minimum Plumbing Permit examples. The City also ended its single-family toilet rebate after 2023, having offered it since 1992, because most replacements were happening in homes that already had high-efficiency toilets. A WaterSense toilet rebate is still listed for HOA, multifamily and commercial properties, though the City's rebate page says its commercial program closed March 31, 2026.

Cost factors for a toilet repair or swap

A toilet repair usually comes down to one part and the work needed to get at it.

Preventative maintenance members receive 10% off plumbing services, and weekend appointments carry no additional fees.

  • Tank parts: the flapper, fill valve, flush valve or handle.
  • Removing the toilet to reach the wax ring or flange.
  • Whether the shutoff valve or supply line also needs replacing.
  • A blockage further down the drain line.
  • A new toilet, if the bowl or tank is cracked.

They came out quickly, did camera work, and took the time to thoroughly track down the issue instead of rushing. Turns out we had roots breaking a pipe under our tub.

toilet repair in Scottsdale.

Questions about toilet repair in Scottsdale? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Can you unclog a toilet that a plunger has not cleared?

Yes. Trident clears toilet clogs with equipment suited to the fixture, then checks whether the drain line beyond it is involved. Tell us what you have already tried, including any drain products.

Why does my toilet run for a few seconds when no one has used it?

Water is likely leaking from the tank into the bowl until the tank refills. A worn flapper is one possible cause; the inspection confirms which part needs replacing.

Can a leaking toilet be fixed without replacing it?

It depends on the source. A worn wax ring, a flange problem or a loose connection can be repaired, while a crack in the bowl or tank makes replacement worth considering.

Do you repair toilets at commercial properties?

Yes. Trident provides commercial as well as residential plumbing. For a business, mention how many restrooms are affected and when work can be done with the least disruption.

Can I still get a City rebate for a new toilet?

Not for single-family homes. Scottsdale Water offered single-family toilet rebates from 1992 to 2023, then discontinued them. A WaterSense toilet rebate is listed for HOA, multifamily and commercial properties, but a notice says that program closed March 31, 2026 and will relaunch, so check before buying.

How can I tell if a toilet is raising my water bill?

The City lists a leaky toilet among the most common causes of a high bill. With no water in use, watch the meter or your hourly WaterSmart data; if use continues, a toilet that keeps refilling is a likely suspect.
