Drain Cleaning

Drain cleaning for Tempe kitchens, bathrooms and main lines

A slow drain can change ordinary routines long before it stops completely. You may notice standing water after washing, a recurring odor or water appearing in another fixture. Tell us what happens during normal use; there is no need to reproduce an overflow to explain it.

Trident serves Tempe through its North Phoenix office. We provide cleaning for kitchen and bathroom drains, laundry lines, floor drains and main drainage systems. Where the concern involves a fixture connection or the sewer line, the inspection helps define the additional work.

At the kitchen sink

Kitchen residue and connected plumbing

Grease, oils, food residue and detergent buildup can contribute to kitchen drain restrictions. Notice whether water empties slowly every time, only during heavier use or after flow briefly improved from earlier cleaning. That history helps describe the problem without guessing at what is inside the pipe.

Trident can assess the kitchen drain and related sink plumbing. Include a visible leak or another fixture concern when arranging the visit so it can be discussed alongside the drainage. Cleaning the line and repairing a connection are different jobs, even when both affect the same sink.

Around the bathroom

Hair, soap and repeated bathroom clogs

Bathroom drains can collect hair, soap scum, toothpaste and personal-care residue. A sink or shower that drains slowly may need cleaning, while several affected fixtures raise another question about the connected line. Tell us whether the toilet is also flushing poorly or backing up.

The plumber needs the pattern, not a diagnosis based on the room. A problem at one fixture may remain local to it, or an inspection may identify work elsewhere in the drainage. If a fixture itself needs repair, Trident can explain that bathroom plumbing scope separately from cleaning.

Beyond an isolated clog

Gurgling, bubbling, odors and a clog that keeps returning are useful reasons to request assessment. Include standing water around a floor drain or wastewater appearing in a tub or shower. These details matter even when some fixtures still seem to work normally.

Water appearing in one fixture when another is used can point to a connected drainage concern. Several slow drains may also justify assessment of the main line. Clearing only the most visible fixture should not be assumed to resolve the entire problem when the symptoms extend elsewhere.

Know what changed

Cleaning and the next useful step

Professional cleaning removes material that restricts wastewater flow. Ask which drain or portion of the system was addressed and whether any other condition needs attention. Improved flow is useful to observe alongside continuing odors, noises or changes in another fixture.

Keep the service findings for reference if a symptom returns. A kitchen line, bathroom drain and main sewer concern may need different follow-up. Report what has changed and what remains the same so further work can be planned around the actual drainage rather than an assumed recurring clog.

Grease and wipes

Grease, wipes and what goes down the drain

The City's fats, oils and grease page lists the usual sources: food scraps, meat fats, lard, oil, butter, sauces, dressings, marinades and dairy. Its advice is to pour cooking grease into a container for the trash, scrape and wipe pans before washing, put strainers over kitchen, bathroom and laundry drains and avoid the garbage disposal whenever possible. Residents can ask Environmental Services for a free Fat Trapper with disposable bags, and the Household Products Collection Center recycles cooking oil dropped off during business hours.

Bathroom clogs have their own list. The City says to flush only human waste and toilet paper, and it names wipes labeled flushable, cotton swabs, floss, hair and kitty litter among the items to keep out. It also advises against degreasing cleaners. A drain that smells but runs fine may just have a dry trap, and the City suggests flushing fixtures with plenty of water so their traps do not dry out. When a smell lingers after that, or more than one fixture backs up, ask us to look at the line beyond the trap.

Drain pricing

What decides the cost of a drain cleaning visit

Drain cleaning is priced by where the clog sits and what it takes to clear it. Simple clearing does not add a permit: the City's code exempts clearing a stoppage when no pipe, valve or fixture is replaced.

Weekend visits are a regular part of our schedule and carry no additional fees. Members of our preventative maintenance plan get 10% off plumbing services.

  • One fixture drain or the main line.
  • How the line can be reached: a cleanout, a trap or a roof vent.
  • What the clog is made of: grease, wipes, hair or roots.
  • Whether a camera inspection is needed to find the cause.
  • Cabling or hydro jetting for heavy buildup.

Degreasing drain cleaners, in the City's advice
Skip them

The City warns that degreasers break grease up only for a while; it rejoins into solids and causes a blockage further down the line.

drain cleaning in Tempe.

Questions about drain cleaning in Tempe? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Do you clean laundry lines and floor drains in Tempe?

Yes. These are included alongside kitchen, bathroom and main drainage systems. Identify the affected area and the activity taking place when water appears or flow slows.

Can I mention a leak beneath a sink during a drain request?

Yes. Describe both concerns. The plumber can assess the drain and related kitchen or bathroom plumbing, then explain cleaning and any connection repair as separate work.

Should I choose sewer service whenever several drains are slow?

Report all affected fixtures and let the team discuss the starting point. Several slow drains can warrant a main-line investigation, but the inspection establishes the scope.

Does a drain need attention if the standing water eventually clears?

A persistent change is worth discussing even if water eventually empties. Mention how often it happens and any noise, odor or returning blockage so the pattern can be assessed.

Why does a drain smell like rotten eggs when nothing is clogged?

The City's water FAQ points to dried-out P-traps, which let sewer gas escape into the room. Running plenty of water through the fixture refills the trap. To rule out the tap water itself, fill a clean glass at that fixture, walk away from the drain and check the smell after a few minutes.

Can I flush wipes labeled flushable in Tempe?

The City says to keep them out. Its list of items to keep out of drains to prevent sewer blockages includes baby and facial wipes, diapers and kitty litter, even when labeled flushable. It recommends flushing only human waste and toilet paper.
