Installation and urgent repair

Water heater installation and repair in Paradise Valley

Trident Plumbing & Drain installs and repairs residential and commercial water heaters, with visits arranged by our North Phoenix office. Some requests start with a leak or a cold shower. Others start with a plan to replace an older unit or change to a different type of system.

Both lead to the same questions: what the current heater is doing, how much hot water the property needs at once and which equipment the space and existing utilities can support. The sections below compare the main options and cover what to report when a heater fails suddenly.

A heater problem now

Leaks and a sudden loss of hot water

Water spreading from the heater, a tank that has started to drip or a complete loss of hot water can call for urgent service. Tell the office where the water is appearing, whether it is still escaping and which fixtures have lost hot water.

The technician identifies whether the source is a connection, a component or the tank before recommending repair or replacement. If the tank itself has failed, the installation options below become the next conversation.

Stored hot water

Gas, electric and Marathon storage tanks

A storage tank keeps a set volume of water heated, ready for the next tap that opens. Gas and electric tanks both work this way. Marathon heaters are an electric version whose tank has no conventional anode rod. The points to compare are tank capacity, recovery after heavy use and the space available.

A tank works well when its stored supply and recovery can cover the household's busiest period. If the current tank runs out regularly, that history helps decide whether more capacity or another kind of heater would serve the home better.

Other approaches

Tankless and hybrid heat pump systems

A tankless heater warms water as it passes through the unit instead of keeping a tank hot. Its size depends on the number of hot-water fixtures likely to run at once, and its installation requirements differ from a tank's, so both need reviewing for the home.

A hybrid heat pump heater pulls warmth from the air around it and transfers it to a storage tank. It needs enough air space and suitable installation conditions, so the location matters as much as household demand. Trident can explain whether either option fits.

Plan the work

Confirm fuel, location and upkeep first

Before installation, confirm the fuel the new heater will use, where it will sit and what the location needs to support it. A different type of heater can have different installation requirements from the one it replaces.

Ask what maintenance the chosen system needs, since requirements vary by type and water conditions. A maintenance membership can cover routine care, and financing is available for a larger installation.

Permit and supply

The Town permit and the water your heater gets

Paradise Valley's Plumbing Permit application names installing a water heater among the jobs it covers, next to gas line work and whole-house repiping. Applications go through the Town's online Citizen Portal with a site plan and plumbing isometrics and calculations. The Town's building page says approved plans and the permit must be on site at all times, and the Town stops taking submittals at 3:30 p.m. Build those steps into your plan for a replacement.

What the new heater will face depends on your water company. EPCOR's local district lists about 12 grains of hardness per gallon from a 2022 sample, Phoenix's 2025 report shows 10 to 17.6 grains across its system and Scottsdale's 2026 report lists roughly 13 to 17. Phoenix's report links hard water to scaling in pipes, water heaters and fixtures. Tell us which company bills you, and we can suggest a flushing or descaling routine that suits the supply.

Cost factors

What changes the cost of a water heater job

No two heater jobs are priced the same. These are the details that move a quote up or down once the heater has been inspected.

GreenSky® financing is available for a replacement or a switch to a different type of heater. A preventative maintenance membership adds a yearly flush and whole-home inspection, plus 10% off plumbing services and a waived emergency fee.

  • Repairing one component, such as a thermostat, igniter or valve, or replacing the whole unit.
  • Storage tank, tankless or hybrid heat pump, and the fuel the home already has.
  • Room and air space at the install location, which matters most for a hybrid unit.
  • Gas line, venting or electrical changes the new heater requires.
  • The Town plumbing permit, its drawings and the inspection.

Our 12 year old water heater was leaking. I called and spoke with Shelby who was able to dispatch a technician immediately, same day… Tyler arrived on time, worked efficiently and cleaned up after himself.

Questions about
water heater repair & installation in Paradise Valley.

Questions about water heater repair & installation in Paradise Valley? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Which water heater suits a home with several bathrooms?

It depends on how many showers and appliances run at the same time. A larger tank, a tankless unit sized for that use or a hybrid model can each fit, depending on space and the utilities available.

Is a hybrid water heater suitable for any location?

Not always. A hybrid heat pump heater draws heat from the surrounding air, so it needs adequate air space and suitable installation conditions.

Do you handle emergency water heater repairs?

Yes. Trident provides emergency plumbing, including water heater problems such as an active leak or a sudden loss of hot water. Describe what is happening when you call.

Can you install a water heater at a commercial property?

Yes. Trident installs and repairs water heaters at commercial properties as well as homes. Describe how the business uses hot water so the equipment can be matched to that demand.

Is a Town permit needed for a new water heater in Paradise Valley?

The Town's Plumbing Permit application lists installing a water heater as one of its uses. Applications are filed online through the Citizen Portal with a site plan and plumbing isometrics and calculations, so build that step into the timeline.

Does my water supplier change how often to flush the heater?

It can. The published reports list different hardness figures, from about 12 grains per gallon in EPCOR's local district (a 2022 sample) to a range of 10 to 17.6 across Phoenix's system. Harder water leaves sediment faster, so start from your supplier's latest figures and adjust the interval to what drains out of the tank.
