Full-service plumbing in Carefree, AZ

Homeowners and businesses in Carefree can call on Trident for routine maintenance, simple repairs and more involved projects alike. As a woman-, veteran- and family-owned business, Trident starts each job by understanding what the plumbing is doing now.

Use the service guides below to explore leak detection, drains and sewer lines, kitchen and bathroom plumbing, water heaters and water treatment. Several concerns can be combined in one request.

Hidden leaks

Recognize the signs of a possible slab leak

Slab leaks can go unnoticed until damage is underway. Common warning signs include an unexplained increase in the water bill, damp spots on floors and reduced water pressure. Warm patches underfoot or a hiss of flowing water while every tap is closed are also worth reporting.

These signs justify an inspection but do not confirm where a leak is. Trident uses leak detection tools to locate the problem, then explains the repair options so the work can be planned with as little impact on the property as the situation allows.

Remodels and fixtures

Plumbing for kitchen and bathroom projects

A bathroom renovation or kitchen update often involves more than choosing new fixtures. Supply lines, drains and shutoff valves may need to change to suit the new layout, and existing leaks are easier to address while walls and cabinets are open.

Trident handles fixture installation and repair, garbage disposals, sinks, toilets and showers, along with the piping that serves them. Share your plans early so the plumbing work can be scheduled in step with the rest of the project.

Water quality

Reverse osmosis systems provide filtered drinking water with modest upkeep, whole-home water softeners reduce the mineral scale that affects fixtures and appliances, and carbon filtration is used to improve taste and odor. Each can be suited to residential or commercial use.

Choosing among them starts with what you have noticed, such as spots on glassware, a chlorine smell or a preference for filtered drinking water. Each system is available with installation and ongoing service, and membership plans cover RO filter changes and softener salt.

Commercial and urgent

Service for businesses and urgent problems

Offices, shops and other commercial properties need plumbing work planned around the people who use them. When requesting commercial service, describe which restrooms, kitchens or work areas are affected and when the property can be accessed.

When a drain backs up or a supply line fails at a home or business, turn off the fixture’s supply valve or the main shutoff when that can be done safely. Then contact our North Phoenix office, which arranges Trident service in Carefree, and explain what is happening.

Your water supply

River water, local wells and a blend that varies

Water in town comes from the Carefree Water Company, which is owned by a utilities district whose board is the Mayor and Town Council. Its 2025 report says delivered water averages 70% canal water from the Central Arizona Project, which carries Colorado River water, and 30% groundwater from local wells. The canal water arrives already treated by neighboring communities, and in 2025 all of it came from Scottsdale.

The mix depends on the time of year and your spot on the system. The company says some areas receive only treated water bought from Scottsdale, with no local groundwater, and suggests those customers also read Scottsdale's water quality report. Its own report puts hardness at about 14 to 16 grains per gallon, so size and set a softener for that range rather than for a single reading.

Older and seasonal homes

Homes from the 1980s and houses left empty for months

Census estimates put the median home in town at 1988, with about 55% built before 1990 and 41% from 1990 to 2009. About one home in five is held for seasonal, recreational or occasional use. In houses of that age, original shutoff valves, supply lines, hose bibs and water heaters are the parts most worth checking, and a home that sits empty can hide a slow leak for weeks.

Before you leave for the season, turn off the water at your own shutoff and follow the maker's instructions for the water heater. The water company recommends a shutoff valve within 18 inches of your side of the meter, so you can shut off water to the house without touching the company's valve. For a remodel or repipe, start with the Town: its Building Department states that all construction requires a permit.

Past the meter

Pressure valves, leaks and the line after the meter

The water company maintains the lines up to and including your meter. From the meter's exit side to the point of use, including service lines and irrigation, the plumbing is yours. Because its system has several pressure zones, the company recommends a pressure regulator and a check valve between the meter and the house, and says that, in its experience, these valves begin to fail 5 to 8 years after installation. New services must have a customer-owned shutoff and regulator within 12 inches of the meter.

If a leak runs up a bill, the company's leak adjustment policy may help, at its discretion. It asks to be told within about two months of the leak starting, wants documentation of the cause and evidence of the repair such as receipts or photos, and applies an adjustment no more than once in 24 months. Keep the invoice and photos from any leak repair we make.

Local water and homes

Six local facts for Carefree homeowners

Numbers from the water company, the Town and the U.S. Census Bureau, and how each one bears on your pipes, fixtures and water heater.

Approximate hardness of the town's water

Median year homes in town were built
1988

About 55% of homes in town were built before 1990, so original shutoff valves, supply lines and water heaters may be due for a check.

About 1 in 5

Census estimates count about 440 of the town's 2,315 homes this way. A house left empty for months needs a plan for its water.

Yes. Reverse osmosis, carbon filtration and water softeners are available for residential and commercial properties, chosen to match the concern you have noticed.

Do you handle plumbing for remodels?

Yes. Trident provides plumbing for bathroom and kitchen remodels, including fixtures, supply lines and drains. Share the plans early so the work can be coordinated.

What are the signs I might have a slab leak?

An unexplained rise in the water bill, damp spots on floors and reduced water pressure are common signs. Professional detection confirms whether there is a leak and where.

How hard is the water in Carefree?

The water company's 2025 report puts it at about 14 to 16 grains per gallon, or 240 to 270 ppm. The report notes that hardness can cause scale deposits on plumbing fixtures.

Who handles the sewer in town?

The Town's utilities page lists Liberty Utilities as responsible for maintaining and servicing the sewer system and pipelines. Water service and water bills come from the water company.

Do I need a permit for plumbing work in Carefree?

The Town's Building Department states that all construction requires a permit, and its adopted codes include the 2018 International Plumbing Code. Ask the Town whether your job needs one; applications go through its online Permit & License Portal.

Does a single-family home need a backflow device?

Usually not. The water company says homes used only as residences are generally exempt unless a cross connection is found or the home is used for other purposes. Where an assembly is required, it must be tested and inspected every year by a certified tester.

Can I check whether my service line contains lead?

The water company's 2025 report links to its service line inventory online and says to contact the company if you want your water tested for lead. Pipes and fixtures inside the house are a separate question for a plumber.
