Surprise Plumbers

Trident Plumbing & Drain serves Surprise homes and businesses with drain, leak, fixture, water heater and water treatment services. This directory brings the local service pages together so you can compare the work involved before arranging a visit. You do not need to diagnose the fault to ask for help.

Start with what has changed. One sink draining slowly is different from water backing up when another appliance runs. A visible faucet drip is different from unexplained moisture behind a wall. Describe the pattern and where it occurs; the inspection can establish which part of the plumbing needs attention.

Before the visit

Notice how the problem behaves

Slow drains, gurgling and drain odors deserve attention, especially when they recur. Tell the plumber whether the concern affects one fixture or several. A backup that appears while a dishwasher or washing machine drains is useful information, but it does not identify the obstruction by itself.

For supply-side concerns, note whether pressure changes are widespread or limited to one outlet. Unusual pipe sounds and moisture on walls, ceilings or floors should also be included in the request. Keep observations separate from guesses about a failed part.

Choose the scope

Separate a repair from a planned upgrade

A fixture that no longer works properly and a fixture you want to update can lead to different choices. Explain whether the priority is restoring use, changing the layout or replacing worn equipment. The existing drain, supply connections and available space help determine the work.

For a water heater or treatment system, bring the model details and any service records into the discussion. Ask what has been found, which options address that finding and what installation changes each option requires. The equipment recommendation should follow the property assessment.

For pipe or sewer concerns, review the piping and repiping and sewer service guides. An inspection determines whether cleaning, a localized repair or broader pipe replacement fits the findings.

Useful details

Help the visit start with the right information

List the affected fixtures and when the issue began. Mention earlier repairs or clogs, and describe whether the problem is constant or appears during heavier use. Photos of visible equipment labels or accessible leaks can help explain the request without opening walls or dismantling plumbing.

For a managed property or business, include the contact who can provide access and authorize work. Tell the office if water is spreading or plumbing cannot be used. Our Peoria office coordinates Surprise service and can discuss the next available appointment.

Understand the recommendation

Leave with a clear scope of work

The inspection should connect the reported symptom to the recommended service. Drain cleaning, a pipe repair and a replacement fixture address different findings. Ask which problem the proposed work is intended to resolve and whether any separate concerns remain.

Keep the service notes for future visits. A history of repeat clogs, replaced components or maintenance can help explain a later change. If several projects are being considered, discuss which work restores function and which is an optional improvement before deciding how to proceed.

Who supplies your water

Eleven water providers across the planning area

Surprise does not have a single water system. The City lists eleven drinking water providers across its planning areas: the City itself, EPCOR, the City of El Mirage and other companies including Beardsley, Chaparral, Circle City, Morristown, Puesta Del Sol, Saguaro Acres, Saguaro View and West End. The quickest way to know which one serves you is the name on your water bill. The City's My Surprise Address lookup also lists the water and sewer provider for any address inside city limits.

The supplier changes what comes out of the tap. City customers receive groundwater only, and the City's 2025 reports list hardness of 3.9 grains per gallon for its Mountain Vista system and 6.2 for Desert Oasis. EPCOR's Agua Fria district draws on Colorado River water from the Central Arizona Project, Lake Pleasant and groundwater, and its 2025 report lists 2 to 17 grains. Before you rely on any of these numbers, confirm the provider for your address in the City's My Surprise Address lookup.

Local homes

More than three in four homes built since 2000

Census estimates count about 69,450 homes in the city, with a median build year of 2006. Nearly half went up between 2000 and 2009, another 29% in 2010 or later, and fewer than 6% before 1990. About 83% of occupied homes are lived in by their owners. A house from the mid-2000s may still have its original water heater, faucet cartridges, toilet parts and supply lines. If so, they have been in service for about 20 years.

When replacement comes up, the City's code amendments in force since January 1, 2026 matter. A home water heater swapped for one of the same size, type and method of operation is exempt from a permit if the old one was installed with a valid permit, and so are water softeners, soft water loops, filtration systems and hot water re-circulators. Work that needs a permit goes through the Community Development Department, which issues permits for construction on private property. Trident is licensed by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors under ROC 331536.

Sewer and drains

Your sewer line, from the house to the main

Sewer service is split among providers too, depending on the area, and the City points owners in areas with no wastewater provider to Maricopa County's on-site wastewater program. Where the City is the provider, its code makes each single-family and duplex customer responsible for keeping the building sewer, the sewer lateral and the tap clear of obstruction, from the house to the public sewer. The City may repair an off-property lateral in a public right-of-way or easement at its discretion, under conditions that include the user not causing the damage and funding being available.

If sewage backs up into the house, the City asks customers to call with their name, address and phone number, and it sends someone out. A backup in the City's sewer line is the City's to correct; anywhere else, it is the owner's responsibility. The City names fats, oils, grease, wipes and pills as the most frequent cause of sewer problems, which is why our team asks what has been going down the drains when a line keeps clogging.

Questions about
plumbing.

Questions about plumbing services in Surprise? Start here, or tell us what is happening at your home.

Ask our team
Do I need to know which plumbing service to request?

No. Describe what you see, where it happens and whether other fixtures are affected. The office can discuss a service request, and the inspection determines the needed work.

Is there a Trident office in Surprise?

Surprise service is coordinated through our Peoria office. The map shows that serving office and the city.

Can I discuss a fixture upgrade during a repair visit?

Mention both projects when arranging the visit so access and scope can be discussed. The plumber can explain whether the existing connections support the change and what additional work may be involved.

Which page should I use for an unexplained wet spot?

Start with leak detection. If a leak beneath the slab is suspected, the slab leak repair guide explains why locating and assessing the problem comes before selecting a repair approach.

Who supplies water to my home in Surprise?

It depends on the address. The City lists eleven drinking water providers in its planning areas, including the City of Surprise, EPCOR and the City of El Mirage. Check the name on your water bill, or enter your address in the City's My Surprise Address lookup.

Where does City of Surprise tap water come from?

Groundwater. The City says it currently relies solely on groundwater for drinking water, pumped from City wells in the West Salt River Valley sub-basin. It also has Colorado River water from the Central Arizona Project and reclaimed water, which it uses for irrigation.

How hard is the water in Surprise?

It depends on your supplier. The City's 2025 reports list 3.9 grains per gallon for Mountain Vista, 6.2 for Desert Oasis and 5.3 for Surprise Foothills. EPCOR's 2025 Agua Fria report lists a range of 2 to 17 grains.

Can I replace a water heater without a City permit?

In a home, yes, if it is a like-for-like swap. The City's code amendments exempt replacing an existing heater with one of the same size, type and method of operation when the old heater was installed with a valid permit. The list does not name other changes, such as a different size or type.

Who handles a sewer backup if the City is my sewer provider?

Call the City first. It sends someone to check and corrects a backup in its own sewer line. A backup anywhere else is the owner's responsibility. City code makes single-family owners responsible for keeping their building sewer and lateral clear.
